4 MainTypes of Hauntings
Residual
A residual haunting is a playback of a past event. The apparitions involved are not spirits, they are "recordings" of an event. The event is believed to be "looping"over and over. This "imprint" is not aware of our presence and is not harmful. This may be the first type of haunting that main stream researchers will recognize and study.
Intelligent
In the terminology of ghost hunting, an intelligent haunting (also known as a classic or traditional haunting) differs from a residual haunting, being a haunting in which a spiritual entity is aware of the living world and interacts with or responds to it.
Elementals
This type of haunting is rare.It is believed that the "spirit" have never been human at any time. The Greeks called all otherworldy beings daemons or daimons. Daemons included guardian or helpful spirits, spirits of the four elements
(earth,air,fire,water), and spirits of a place( spiritus loci).With the advent of the Judeo-Christian worldview the daemon, in all its forms became "demon".
Poltergeist
Poltergeists or poltergeist hauntings may be the most misunderstood type of haunting, as some believe that poltergeist hauntings are not even a haunting at all. The German word "poltergeist" means "noisy ghost."
The best defining mark of a poltergeist is if there is any manipulation of the physical environment such as the movement of objects, physical attack, spontaneous combustions, etc.The reason for this is because typically poltergeist hauntings center around an adolescent in the household. This person may or may not even be aware they are the cause. The movement of objects may simply be a form of telekinesis.
Telekinsis or psychokinesis is a term used
in parapsychology to refer to using the power of the mind to cause the movement of matter at a distance.
